Fondo Notte - Paesaggi 2023-26
Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the idea that even where I see nothing, something might still be there. Sometimes, perhaps, it is.
This work comes from an intuition that would stay with me for a long time: observing in the dark, almost in the dark, in a condition close to the absence of light. Working near the technical limits of the instrument, inhabiting that threshold where the image begins to lose definition, but not yet its ability to hold a trace.
It is not about illuminating the night, nor about correcting darkness, but about remaining within its insufficiency, allowing the weakest, most peripheral information to emerge on its own. Like when you suddenly find yourself in the dark and have to strain your eyes, waiting for your pupils to dilate, until certain profiles slowly begin to separate from the background.
